Each and every client deserves the best possible defense. I am excited to join the outstanding team at the Bernard Defense Team. This incredible team focuses on all of the important details of OUI defense.

I have had a long career spanning many disciplines including criminal, civil, and corporate work. However, litigating criminal matters has been the most rewarding part of my career. I enjoy gaining knowledge of the facts from clients, analyzing the case, and trying cases in front of judges and juries. I am thrilled to join a team that is relentless in focusing on each and every case with the goal of gaining the best possible outcome for our clients. That is what being an attorney is all about.

Prior to joining our firm, I worked as both a litigation and corporate attorney. Recently, I have worked as a corporate attorney and Chief Legal Officer for a company working in the legal industry. My career started in the Northwestern District Attorney’s office as a prosecuting attorney. I worked in both District and Superior court prosecuting all criminal matters and hundreds of OUIs. After the District Attorney’s office, I became a partner in the firm of Whalen and Whalen where I specialized in criminal defense work. I have defended hundreds of clients charged with OUI.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in 1981 from St. Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, and received my law degree from Western New England College in 1984. I was admitted to the practice of law in Massachusetts in 1985. I am a member of the Massachusetts and Hampden County Bar Associations.

Community Involvement

Community Involvement:

Giving back to the community is important to me. I am blessed to have four children and enjoyed coaching a number of sports in the community for over 20 years.

Additionally, it has been a privilege to serve on the Mercy Hospital Board of Directors for over 10 years serving as chairman in 2018. I also am a dedicated Shriner and currently serve as Chairman of the Board of Shriner’s Children’s Boston. Dean Whalen Elected Chairman Shriners Children’s Boston
